Self- and career construction counseling for a gifted young woman in search of meaning and purpose

Abstract

This article reports on career counseling intervention for a purposefully selected, gifted 17-year-old young woman. An intrinsic, single-case study approach was implemented. Data were gathered using an integrative qualitative and quantitative approach. After the intervention, the participant displayed an enhanced sense of self-identity and career-identity. Career construction counseling can be used to assist gifted learners in identifying key life themes that can help them find meaning and a sense of purpose in their career choices. Determining the longer-term effect of this kind of intervention and examining its effectiveness with diverse gifted learners (individually or in group-based settings) is essential.

Résumé

Conseil en orientation professionnelle basé sur la construction de soi et de carrière pour une jeune femme à haut potentiel à la recherche d’un sens et d’un but Cet article traite d’une intervention en orientation professionnelle menée auprès d’une jeune femme à haut potentiel âgée de 17 ans. Une approche d’étude de cas intrasèque a était mise en place. Les données ont été collectées à travers une approche intégrative qualitative et quantitative. Suite à l’intervention, la participante a démontré un sens accru d’identité personnelle ainsi que professionnelle. Le conseil en orientation professionnelle basé sur la construction de carrière peut être utilisé pour aider les étudiants à haut potentiel à identifier les principaux thèmes de vie qui peuvent les aider à trouver un sens et un but à leurs choix de carrière. Il est essentiel de déterminer l’effet à plus long terme de ce type d’intervention et d’examiner son efficacité auprès de divers étudiants à haut potentiel (individuellement ou en groupe).

Zusammenfassung

Selbst- und Career construction Beratung für eine begabte junge Frau auf der Suche nach Bedeutung und Zielen Dieser Artikel beschreibt eine Laufbahnberatung einer ausgewählten, begabten 17-jähren jungen Frau. Die Daten wurden mittels eines integrativen qualitativen und quantitativen Ansatzes gesammelt. Nach der Intervention zeigte die Teilnehmerin höhere Werte in den Bereichen Selbstidentität und Berufsidentität. Career Construction Beratung kann verwendet werden, um begabte Personen dabei zu unterstützen, Lebensthemen zu identifizieren, die ihrer Berufswahlentscheidung Sinn verleihen. Die Ermittlung von Langzeiteffekten dieser Art von Interventionen und die Analyse der Effektivität mit verschiedenen begabten Schülern (individuell oder im Gruppensetting) sind notwendig.

Orientación para la construcción de la identidad personal y profesional a una joven de altas capacidades en busca de significado y sentido En este artículo se presenta una intervención orientadora para una joven de 17 años, con altas capacidades, Se realizó un estudio de caso único, intrínseco. Los datos se recogieron usando un enfoque integrado cualitativo y cuantitativo. Después de la intervención, la participante mostró un mayor sentido de identidad de sí misma y de su identidad profesional. La orientación para la construcción de la carrera puede usarse para ayudar a los aprendices de altas capacidades a identificar temas vitales clave que les permitan encontrar significado y sentido a sus elecciones profesionales. Es fundamental determinar los efectos a largo plazo de este tipo de intervención y explorar su efectividad con aprendices diversos de altas capacidades (de forma individual o grupal).
