Inelastic scattering of pions leading to the lowest octupole states in nuclei

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento A (1971-1996)

Summary

The generalized diffraction model of Frahn and Venter is used to study the inelastic scattering of pions around the Δ-resonance leading to the lowest 3 states in18O,28Si,40,42,44,48Ca,58Ni and208Pb. A reasonably good description of the angular distributions is obtained in most cases and the octupole deformation lengths are extracted.
