Zusammenfassung

Die Entwicklung der internationalen Ordnung ist bis in die Gegenwart eng mit der Geschichte der Diplomatie verbunden. Sowohl für die großen Fragen von Krieg und Frieden, als auch auch für zahlreiche Problembereiche der internationalen Politik stellt die Diplomatie als institutionalisiertes Kommunikations- und Verhandlungssystem ein relevantes Handlungsfeld dar. Funktionen und Formen der Diplomatie erstrecken sich heute von der traditionellen Friedens- und Krisendiplomatie bis zu modernen Formen der erzwingenden Diplomatie, der Gipfel- und Konferenzdiplomatie.
