And the thing to remember here is that working in the gig economy online is as flexible as you need it to be. It can mean that you take odd jobs and that you never settle down in one place for that long, or it can mean you work almost full time from one organization as a contractor, although you do need to make sure that you look into the tax rules regarding that setup. It could also mean, though, that you work a near full-time job and then you take Mondays off work. Or it could mean you work two jobs or maybe just three. Or it could mean that you do all your work on a Monday and Tuesday and then you take the rest of the week off.
The gig economy allows us to employ something called lifestyle design. That means that, instead of changing your lifestyle to fit around the job you find, you choose a job that perfectly suits the lifestyle that you want. This is game-changing. We’re moving towards a time when more and more work is going to be outsourced and automated and we’re going to have more free time. And we need to get used to that and we need to work in smarter ways. We can’t just wait for our employers to give us a raise. We need to take proactive action.
Of course, the gig economy can also be a part-time gig in itself. You could work a job whilst meanwhile training yourself and taking on other extra work on the side. You could do a part-time job. The options are simply endless.
