Introduction to the Oracle Cloud User Management. We’re going to take a look at the Oracle Cloud Dashboard in just a moment. But first, we want to talk about what we are going to look at. It’s important to realize that, by default, there’s accounts created for us to manage the Oracle Cloud environment.

There’s several places in the Oracle Cloud Dashboard to actually create users. And this will allow us to create additional admin accounts as well as customize groups and policies for permissions for those users. So after logging into our cloud environment, we are going to go to Identity. Identity management allows us to look at users, groups, dynamic groups, policies, compartments, federation, and authentication settings.

If we start with authentication settings, you will see that this sets up the rules for the passwords for the local accounts. This allows you to set how many numeric characters, any special characters, and the length of the passwords that are required. Going back to the identity management piece, this allows us to create those users.

Before we go here, we want to take a look at the Dashboard again. Because there’s always more than one place to be able to create users. Just as we went over here to the left toolbar, we have the Identity menu that we can go to. Or we can go over to the right and just click on User Management. This will take us to the same place to manage the users, create new users in our tenancy and in our cloud environment, and allow us to integrate our Enterprise users to our cloud environment.

As you can see, I’ve already created a few users. And there’s also one account that was created when we first requested the cloud service. If we look at this account, this is the Oracle Identity Cloud Service account, it’s a federated account that has the identity provider of the Oracle Identity Cloud Service. This account was created to manage and be the administrator of the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. With this account, we are able to create additional users and manage our cloud environment.

Before we continue in the dashboard, we’re going to take a step back and talk about the different Enterprise users and make a plan for our groups and our policies before actually creating the users. So the next section will be on planning these roles and separation of duties.
