Abstract

Augmentation cystoplasty (AC) is generally acceptable therapy for a small-volume, high-pressure bladder. The purpose of AC is to increase bladder storage capacity, decrease bladder pressure, improve bladder compliance (BC), protect upper urinary tract (UUT) function, and provide continence. This chapter gives an overview for the history of AC, indications and contraindications for AC, choice of tissues and materials for AC, auto-augmentation, and tissue engineering AC. It takes the lead in providing some overall information for the following relevant chapters.
