Zusammenfassung
Der vorliegende Beitrag gibt einen Überblick zur Rolle von Emotionen im Kontext politischer Kommunikation. Neben einer Klärung zentraler Begriffe werden ausgewählte Theorien zur Entstehung von Emotionen vorgestellt, anschließend folgt ein Überblick über Forschungsergebnisse zu emotionalen Wirkungen politischer Medieninhalte sowie zum Einfluss von Emotionen sowohl auf die Nutzung von Medien als auch auf die kognitive Informationsverarbeitung. Neben ihrer Bedeutung vor und nach der Rezeption werden Emotionen außerdem auch in ihrer Funktion als Mediator für Wissens-, Einstellungs- und Verhaltenseffekte besprochen.
