Zusammenfassung
Störungen der Atmung dominieren einen Großteil pädiatrischer Notfallsituationen und stellen den häufigsten Grund für einen Kreislaufstillstand im Kindesalter dar. Anatomische und funktionelle Besonderheiten im Kindes- und Säuglingsalter führen, verglichen mit Erwachsenen, zu einer reduzierten Apnoetoleranz und einer Neigung zu obstruktivem Ventilationsversagen. Im Rahmen dieses Kapitels werden Besonderheiten des Respirationstraktes im Säuglings- und Kindesalter erläutert und Ursachen und Therapie der akuten respiratorischen Insuffizienz systematisch dargestellt.
