Definition

Ultraviolet light (UV) is electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths between 10 and 400 nm in the domain between X-rays and optical visible light. The UV spectrum is subdivided in different energy domains, from near UV (400–300 nm; 3.10–4.13 eV) to Extreme UV (121–10 nm; 10.2–124 eV). Vacuum ultraviolet light, VUV, corresponds to light having a wavelength between 100 and 200 nm (or 6.2–12.4 eV).
