Abstract

With the newly available techniques for nonsurgical hemorrhoidectomy, surgical hemorrhoidectomy is being practiced much less frequently. However, forĀ fourth-degree hemorrhoids and some third-degree, a well-performed traditional hemorrhoidectomy, with removal of the pathology and correction of the associated conditions, still remains the procedure of choice. The techniques of open (Milligan-Morgan) and closed (Ferguson) hemorrhoidectomy will be described and an analysis of their outcomes performed.
