Definitions

Public interest is the ultimate good for the greatest number. It is the outcomes best serving the long-run survival and wellbeing of a social collective construed as a “public.” This phenomenon focuses on an ethical standard for evaluating public policies and as a goal civic officials should pursue.

Introduction

The concept of serving communities is as old as the world. This is supported by widespread traces of serving people in the holy books. Biblically, one of the most important principles of the divine commands is helping people. In this regard, Philippians 2:4 presents the interesting case of not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. This could have been written from Ephesus in 52–55 AD or Caesarea Maritima in 57–59, but the most likely city of origin is Rome, around 62 AD.
