Abstract

Metal oxide semiconductors are promising photocatalysts due to their unique optoelectronic properties which can be tuned by several ways for multifunctional applications. Doping is one of such method to modify the semiconductor photocatalysts. Doped ZnO nanostructures have been extensively used as excellent photocatalysts in the wastewater treatment due to their improved optoelectronic and photocatalytic properties resulting into the visible light-active materials. This chapter reports on the recent advancement carried out in the field of doped ZnO nanostructures as photocatalyst for wastewater treatment. Detailed mechanism of various doping strategies of metals and nonmetals in ZnO nanostructures followed by their photocatalytic applications in wastewater treatment has been discussed with emphasis on doping-induced improved optoelectronic and photocatalytic properties.
