Definition
The olfactory bulb (OB) is a small, self-contained system that is pivotally involved in generating the sense of the smell. Large-scale models of the olfactory bulb reconstruct extensive portions of it, including the main neuron populations (i.e., mitral, tufted, and granule cells), along with their connectivity and glomerular organization. Large-scale models of the OB therefore comprise of three components: (i) a model of odor inputs, (ii) cell models of the main neuron classes, and (iii) computational models of feedforward and/or feedback inhibition.
