Refractories and Industrial Ceramics Aims and scope

Aglassmaking furnace with a horseshoe-shaped flame and a capacity of 280 tons/day is used as an example to study the effect of the design of the lining of the regenerator on the volume of the checkerwork that is needed to preheat the combustion air to 1300°C. A new structure is proposed for the lining of a single-pass regenerator. The new lining has a value of 0.979 for the coefficient which characterizes heat loss to the environment and a value of 0.1 for the air infiltration coefficient. The lining is gas-tight and energy-efficient thanks to its multilayered structure, which is composed of modern heat-insulating materials. The new lining structure cuts heat losses to the environment in half compared to existing linings. Heat flux through the roof and side walls of the regenerator is 961.9 and 183.1 – 820.4kW/m2, respectively.
