Abstract

The main features of formation of diffusion layers due to vacuum carburizing of chromium-nickel steel 20Kh2N4A in an acetylene medium are considered. Analysis of the structure of the saturated surface and of the results of carburizing is used to show that the diffusion layer is formed under a thin layer of condensed carbon in a kinetic regime the intensity of which is determined by the structure of the carbon layer and by the rate of its dissolution.
