Preparative Isolation of Novel Antimicrobial Compounds from Pergidae sp. by Reversed-Phase High-Performance Liquid Chromatography

  • Published:
Chemistry of Natural Compounds Aims and scope

A novel macrocarpal (macrocarpal M) together with the grandinol (a known plant metabolite of Eucalptus spp.) were isolated from a methanolic extract of sawfly larvae sp. indet. (Australian sawfly, Hymenoptera:Symphyta) using the developed reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) method. To the best of our knowledge, this macrocarpal M is found to have high levels of antimicrobial activity for the first time. The structures of two compounds were identified by ESI-MS, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and 2D NMR.
