A typical problem often encountered in thermodynamics with Lagrange multipliers is to deduce the relation between the entropy flux and the heat flux from conditions imposed by the entropy principle employing the general entropy inequality. This problem is usually trivial if linear constitutive relations are assumed, and otherwise it can be quite difficult even though such a relation is expected. In this paper, we shall try to formulate such a problem in general and prove as theorems. Some previous thermodynamic theories with Lagrange multipliers are mentioned as typical examples.
