Determination of methylbenzo[a]pyrene isomers in a coal tar standard reference material using liquid chromatography and Shpol'skii spectrometry

Summary

Concentrations of individual methylbenzo[a]pyrene (MBP) isomers were determined in a coal tar standard reference material (SRM 1597) by using liquid chromatography (LC) (normal- and reversed-phase) and high resolution Shpol'skii spectrometry (HRS) at 15 K. This is the first report on the unambiguous identification and quantification of each MBP isomer in a real sample, and this report contains information on the distribution of these highly carcinogenic compounds in coal tar.
