Current commutation relations for interacting fields

Il Nuovo Cimento A (1965-1970)

Summary

A procedure for obtaining the dependence of conserved currents on the fields they generate is developed by imposing gauge invariance on a nonlocal definition of the Lagrangian. This explicit non-classical field dependence is exhibited for several interactions and shown to be sufficient to yield the necessary equality of the current-current and current-field commutators when interactions with massive fields are considered.

  9. The equality [J k,J 0]=[J k,F 01,1] is of course an identity in the massless case sinceF 01,1 is just a dependent variable whose value isJ 0. EvaluatingJ k,F 01 using the CCR of the electromagnetic field and then taking the divergence yields an incorrect result since these CCR apply only to the transverse part ofF 01.
