Consistency of current commutation relations and related considerations

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento A (1965-1970)

Summary

Okubo recently proved the inconsistency of the commutation relation, [j k(x),j 0(x′)]=0, for any local Lorentz vectorj μ(x). In his proof, use is made of the assumption that there are no massless excitations in the physical spectrum. An elementary observation reveals, however, that this assumption is really not necessary. The PS-PV meson theory and the σ-model are discussed. With a proper definition for the current as localized field operator product, theformal inconsistencies observed by Okubo in these two theoretic models are resolved.
