The Production of\(K^0 \bar K^0 \) Pairs by 10 GeV/c Negative Pions on ProtonsPairs by 10 GeV/c Negative Pions on Protons

Summary

On 83 000 photographs from an exposure of the 81 cm Saclay hydrogen bubble chamber to a 10 GeV/e π beam of the CERN proton synchrotron, 63 events have been found showing a beam interaction in a fiducial region of the chamber and the decay of two neutral kaons from this interaction. The c.m. distributions of all produced particles are given. It was found that nucleons are emitted strongly backwards in the c.m.s. while both kaons show a pronounced forward emission. Pions are emitted with small momenta nearly isotropically. None of the known kaon or nucleon isobars is strongly produced, whereas a peaking of the (K 01 k 01 Q-value is observed at ~ 50 MeV. The average transverse and total c.m. momenta increase with the mass of the produced particles.

Fra 83000 fotografie di un’esposizione della camera a bolle ad idrogeno di 81 cm di Saclay al raggio di π- di 10 GeV/c del protosincrotrone del CERN si sono trovati 63 eventi di interazione del fascio in una regione fiduciaria della camera e il decadimento di due kaoni neutri prodotti in tale interazione. Si dànno le distribuzioni nel c.m. di tutte le particelle prodotte. Si è trovato che i nucleoni sono emessi fortemente all’indietro nel c.m. mentre i due kaoni sono emessi spiccatamente in avanti. I pioni sono emessi con deboli impulsi quasi isotropicamente. Nessuno dei kaoni o nucleoni isobari è prodotto abbondantemente, mentre si osserva un picco del valore diQ per (K 01 K 01 ) a ~ 50 MeV. I momenti medi trasversale e totale aumentano con la massa delle particelle prodotte.
