Proton-nucleon interactions at 14 GeV in nuclear emulsion

Summary

Interactions of 14 GeV protons with free and quasi-free nucleons are studied in nuclear emulsion. The elastic cross-section for proton-free proton collision is estimated to be (11±4) mb. The numbers of protons, charged π-mesons and K-mesons per inelastic interaction are found to be 1.24±0.09, 2.53±0.19 and 0.30±0.06, respectively. The centre-of-mass system angular distributions and the mean values of the centre-of-mass system momenta for charged secondaries are given and compared with the results of works at other energies.

Si studiano nelle emulsioni nucleari le interazioni dei protoni di 14 GeV con nucleoni liberi e quasi liberi. Si stima la sezione d’urto elastico per le collisioni protone-nucleone libero in (11±4) mb. Si trova che il numero di protoni, mesoni π carichi e mesoni K per ogni interazione anelastica è 1.24±0.09, 2.53±0.19 e 0.30±0.06, rispettivamente. Si dànno le distribuzioni angolari e i valori medi degli impulsi dei secondari carichi nel sistema del centro di massa e si confrontano con i risultati di studi effettuati ad altre energie.
