Thermodynamic investigation on liquid iron-nickel-zirconium alloys

Abstract

The mixing enthalpies of liquid Fe-Ni-Zr alloys have been estimated with different interpolation algorithms. The results of the estimations have been compared with the results of the experimental data determined with the aid of a high-temperature calorimeter at 1600 °C. The ΔH data have been correlated according to the least squares method by a modified power series and the confidence limits of ΔH were calculated for 95 % probability. The results of the computations have shown that the Hillert [80Hil] and Toop [65Too] geometries are most suitable for the Fe-Ni-Zr system. For this reason, the mixing enthalpies of liquid Fe-Ni-Zr alloys have been estimated in the whole concentration range using the Hillert [80Hil] geometry. Beyond the concentration range of experimental determination the results of the calculation could be taken as a good approximation.
