The 90 ton liquid scintillation detector in the Mont Blanc laboratory

Summary

We discuss here the results from calibrating liquid seintillation counters (1.5 m3 each) used in the large-volume neutrino experiment in the Mont Blanc Laboratory. The electronic and recording systems from the 72 counters of the detector are described, and the method to detect low-energy γ pulse from (n, p) reaction by using252Cf as a neutron source is discussed.

Un esperimento di astronomia del neutrino, con grande volume di scintillatore liquido, è entrato in misura recentemente nel Laboratorio del Monte Bianco dell'Istituto di Cosmogeofisica del C.N.R. Si discutono qui i risultati della calibrazione, dei singoli moduli di rivelazione (di volume 1.5 m3 ciascuno) ed il sistema elettronico e di registrazione dati del'intero apparato, composto di 72 moduli. La possibilità di rivelare impulsi di bassa energia è stata verificata tramite l'osservazione dei γ di cattura prodotti dalla reazione (n, p), in cui si è usato252Cf come sorgente di neutroni.

Мы обсужддаем результаты калибровки жидких сцинтилляционных детекторов (1.5 M3 каждый), которые использовались в крупномасштабном нейтринном эксперименте в лаборатории Мон Блан. Описываются электронная и регистриоующая системы 72 детекторов. Обсуждаетсл метод определения низкоэнергетинеских γ импульсов от (n, p) реакций с использованием252Cf в качестве источника нейтронов.
