Summary
With recent data on competition of plants in the field an attempt is made to give a summary of the literature, dealing with the influence of virus diseases on yield.
It is theoretically possible, that up to a certain percentage the diseases have no effect on the yield. It is even possible, if planting is too dense, or if the diseased plants start tuberization before the healthy plants, and if the healthy plants have a longer vegetation period than the diseased neighbours, that slightly higher yields might be obtained.
