Abstract
The coercive field Ec is defined as an electric field on the attainment of which the probability of producing anti-parallel nuclei begins to rise extremely rapidly. A theory of the coercive field is given which explains the dependence of Ec on the thickness of the crystal and leads to values which agree with experiment in order of magnitude.
