Response of Cu single crystals to high loading rates

II. Effect of strain rate on the slip geometry in Cu single crystals

  • Published:
Czechoslovak Journal of Physics B Aims and scope

Abstract

The slip geometry, the structure of slip markings and dislocation substructure of Cu single crystals in the region of slip bands are investigated. The strain rate expressively affects the form of the slip bands. The difference in form of slip markings is most expressive in specimens with orientation [011]. At high strain rates (>103 s −1) wide deformation bands appear in these specimens that, from the macroscopic standpoint, are similar to twinning. It was found that the bands have their own slip structure.
