Components of variation under sib-mating with linkage

Abstract

The genotypic variances and covariances for a polygenic character in a series of generations arising by continued sib-mating, following an initial cross between two inbred lines, are resolved into their additive and dominance components. It is assumed that epistasis can be neglected, but linkage is taken into account, and recombination frequencies are allowed to differ in the two sexes.

As in the selfing and backcrossing series, the additive components are multiples of quantitiesD 1 which are constant for variances and covariances of a given rank;l. The dominance components, on the other hand, are not expressible in terms of a single set of quantitiesH 1, but it may be necessary to introduce up to three quantitiesH 1′,H 1¨',H 1‴' for each rank.
