Abstract

This paper compares the long-term effectiveness of two treatment programs for delinquent boys confined in the same California Youth Authority institution. Analysis of parole violation rates showed that boys assigned to a 20-bed living unit remained longer on parole than control subjects assigned to an identically staffed living unit housing 50 boys. Analysis of outcomes according to type of subject revealed that neurotic subjects gained most from the intensive program, whereas nonneurotic subjects did equally well in either program.
