Summary

The problem of the interpretation of measurements of surface viscosity of a monomolecular film is complicated by the fact that calculations do not exist, except in a few cases, for the classic effects of bulk viscosity of the substrate fluids, between which the film lies. Methods are given for calculating these effects, where the basic measurement is a torque, or by the “viscous traction” method, where the basic measurement is a time, or velocity. Exactly the same equations used to evaluate the end effect torque correction due to the finite length of the rotating cylinders in a Couette viscometer, are used to evaluate the change in period of rotation in the viscous traction method.

Geschwindigkeit (“viscous-traction method”) verwendet.
