Excited states in195Pt from the decay of 2.3h195Irg, 3.7h195Irm and 183d195Au

Abstract

The decay of two previously reported isomers in195Ir has been investigated with Ge(Li) and Si(Li) detectors by observing β and γ rays as well as conversion electrons in single and coincidence measurements. To about 30 of the 85 observed transitions a multipolarity was assigned. The energies of the gamma rays from195Au were also determined accurately. The decay scheme of195Ir shows 13 new levels in195Pt between 389 and 931 keV. Probable spin and parity assignments could be made to most levels. The results are compared with those of a recent Coulomb excitation study, reaction work and theoretical calculations.

Additional information

The authors wish to express their gratitude to Prof. Dr. A. H. Wapstra and Prof. Dr. R. van Lieshout for their interest in this work and for valuable discussions. We also like to thank Mr. F. Karten and Miss G. Versteeg for performing the chemical separations and Drs. P. Koldewijn for his help in a part of the measurements. Thanks are also due to Dr. W. T. Milner for supplying Coulomb excitation prior to publication and to Dr. M. J. Martin for critical comments and suggestions about the decay scheme. Drs. P. F. A. Goudsmit, J. Konijn and L. Taff are gratefully acknowledged for carefully reading the manuscript. The experiments described in this work are part of the research program of the Institute for Nuclear Physics Research (I.K.O.), made possible by financial support from the Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter (F.O.M.) and the Netherlands Organization for the Advancement of Pure Research (Z.W.O.).
