Summary

In cultures with non-pregerminated tubers a marked increase in the numbers and yield of young tubers was found in presence of small amounts of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D).

In cultures with pregerminated tubers the yield of young tubers also increased considerably in presence of small amounts of the sodium salt of α-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) and the sodium salt of β-indolylacetic acid (IAA). Generally the formation of young tubers took place earlier in presence of small concentrations of these growth substances. In cultures with non-pregerminated tubers the number of young tubers increased considerably in presence of greater concentrations of NAA and IAA. This was attended by a smaller yield and delayed formation of young tubers.
