Summary
The new organophosphorus herbicide amiprophos-methyl [APM; O-methyl-O-(4-methyl-6-nitrophenyl)-N-isopropyl-phosphorothioamidate] inhibits the postmitotic migration of the nucleus and the chloroplast inMicrasterias denticulata Bréb. at concentrations of 10−3 to 10−60/0. The results demonstrate a very strong and specific anti-microtubule activity in the alga by APM. The anatomy of the roots of wheat germinated in 3×10−30/0 APM demonstrates that the microtubular system of higher plant cells is equally disrupted. The basic metabolic reactions of plants cells are only inhibited at concentrations above 10−5 M.
