A novel method for reducing the RNA content of single cell protein isolates

  • Published:
Biotechnology Letters Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

An ion-exchange method is described for the removal of RNA from soluble homogenates of microorganisms. The protein obtained by this gentle method is functionally unchanged and has a maximum RNA to protein ratio (w/w) of 0.03. Recoveries of protein are in excess of 60%. The resin can be regenerated and the process is rapid. This process is the subject of United States patent 4,330,464 (1982) assigned to George Weston Ltd. (Canada).
