Summary
Samples of different brain areas fixed with aldehyde-perfusion were impregnated in zinc-iodide-osmium solution. In attempting to classify nerve cells on the basis of their zinc-iodide-osmium positivity, reactive sites confined to the perikaryal organelles of identified nerve cells were studied electron-microscopically. It was revealed that the Golgi apparatus, the smooth endoplasmic reticulum and the synaptic vesicles contained reaction product of solid appearance, whereas the granular endoplasmic reticulum, the perinuclear cisternae and the mitochondria were filled with impregnation product of a fine granular form. Differences in zinc-iodide-osmium positivity were found in the Golgi apparatuses and in the granular endoplasmic reticulum of certain nerve cells. The results obtained draw attention to differences in chemical composition between nerve cells.
