Abstract
A probe-beam deflection technique was employed to investigate the evolution of shock waves generated during drilling processes of optical materials by a high repetition rate copper vapor laser. Experimental observations were analyzed by using a theoretical model of shock wave expansion which also furnished quantitative information on the main physical functions associated to laser-induced acoustic phenomena.
