Summary

Laterite horizons of Permian age in NW Iran contain diagenetic and low grade metamorphic minerals. Chloritoid is ubiquitous in the metamorphic mineral assemblages. The chemical compositions of three meta-laterites satisfy the conditions for the formation of chloritoid. The comparison of the metamorphic mineral assemblages with experimental data indicates an equilibration temperature not exceeding 375–400°C.
