On the structure of a nickel-molybdenum-alumina catalyst

Abstract

TEM pictures show that the MoS2 of a sulfided NiMo-alumina catalyst preferentially agglomerates at steps of the alumina support. Catalyst samples aged during direct coal liquefaction either 2 or 26 days show single MoS2 layers at steps of the support, and the length of the agglomerates is about the same in the two catalysts. The data is not consistent with models for the catalyst structure that include multi-layers of MoS2.
