Summary

This research attempts to present the histochemically distribution of mucopolysaccharides and glycoproteins in the reactive structures of 30 tumors histologically identified as astrocytoma and as multiform glioblastoma. Generally the tumoral astrocytes appeared as elements forming glycoprotein and neutral mucopolysaccharides and to a lesser extent, acid mucopolysaccharides. The amino sugars, irrespective of whether they establish connections with uronic or sialic acids, with esters of sulfuric or phosphoric acids, prevailingly occur in differentiated and mature tumoral cells. The vascular connective stroma contains larger amounts of mucopolysaccharides than the tumoral parenchyma. Therefore the same differences in the histochemistry of mucopolysaccharides in astrocytoma and in multiform glioblastoma are evident.
