Submicroscopic changes in leukaemia cells of the cerebrospinal fluid following intrathecal methotrexate

Summary

This, we believe is the first report on the submicroscopic structure of cells in the CSF in meningeal lymphosarcoma-cell leukaemia, before and after intrathecal treatment with MTX.

The neucleus is chiefly affected by invaginations of the cytoplasm and condensation of the chromatin along the nuclear margin. Double lamellae also occur within the nucleus.

The cytoplasmic invaginations presumably result in multiple nuclear lobules. Intranuclear fragments are enveloped by membranes. Liberations of clumps of the chromatin from the nucleus were demonstrated.
