Ultrastructure of Hirano bodies

Summary

The Ammon horns of 100 brains of the aged were examined: Hirano bodies were observed in 50%. Histochemically the bodies were composed mainly of protein. The ultrastructure of the Hirano body was a lattice of 100 Å filaments.
