Stressed state in a composite material with curved layers having a low filler concentration

  • Published:
Mechanics of Composite Materials Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

Extremely small curvatures in the structure of the composite material under investigation may have a significant effect on the stressed state on the interface between the matrix and filler, depending on the value of the ratio of elastic moduli.

  2. 2.

Values of the self-balanced stresses depend nonmonotonically on the wave-formation parameter of the form of curvature.

  3. 3.

In examining problems involving the strength of laminar composite materials with curved structures having a small filler concentration, it is necessary to consider the self-balanced stresses at the interface between the matrix and filler, which are determined on the basis of the model of a piecewise-homogeneous body.
