Summary

In a double-blind experiment in which 5 healthy young men acted as their own controls, administration of 2 g of neomycin sulphate in a single dose, as compared with lactose, in a test meal containing 300000 i.u. of vitamin A palmitate (retinyl palmitate) reduced the levels of plasmaretinol measured over a four-hour period after the meal. This effect may be due to a disruption by neomycin of the intraluminal micellar phase of fat digestion and absorption.
