Summary

In 67 guinea pigs, the compound action potentials and cochlear microphonics were led off over a period of 8 days via an indwelling electrode after the bulla tympanica of the animals had been perfused with 1% local anesthetic solutions (tetracaine, lidocaine with and without epinephrine). At first there was a reversible reduction in the functional capacity of the internal ear. A subsequent short recovery phase was followed by an irreversible constant loss of hearing.
