Summary
A group of heavy metals is extractible from aqueous solutions using hexamethyleneammonium-hexamethylenedithiocarbamidate as the chelating agent and a mixture of diisopropylketone and xylene as the organic phase. Volume ratios of aqueous to organic phase up to 50∶1 may be applied. The organic solvent mixture is suitable for both flame and electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry. A procedure is given for the determination of Ag, Bi, Cd, Co, Cu, Ni, Pb, Tl and Zn in water. Organic metal standard solutions are prepared from aqueous stock solutions.
