Abstract

A secretin-pancreozymin test was used to study exocrine pancreas function in 10 children with celiac disease, 4 with cystic fibrosis of the pancreas, 4 who had had a subtotal small bowel resection, 6 with exocrine pancreas insufficiency and 33 healthy children. Simultaneously the bile acids were measured in the gastric juice. 5 of the patients with exocrine pancreas insufficiency with no incidence of mucoviscidosis also showed lowered levels of bile acids. Under the test conditions, the children with total atrophy of the villi showed elevated volumes of gastric juices and elevated amounts of bile acids. In 2 cases with mucoviscidosis normal values were detected for bile acids in spite of a lowered volume of gastric juices.
