Abstract
The influence of 6-OHDA on morphine analgesia estimated by the hot-plate method was investigated in rats. 6-OHDA injected intraventricularly at a dose of 250 Μg/rat, significantly and specifically depleted catecholamines from the brain. Morphine (7.5 mg/kg) produced a prominent analgesia in untreated and sham-injected rats whilst the reaction times of 6-OHDA pretreated rats did not change. When l-DOPA (50 mg/kg) was given to 6-OHDA pretreated rats, morphine recovered its analgesic action. These results suggest that catecholoamines play an important role in morphine analgesia.
