Zusammenfassung
In den letzten Jahren hat die Erforschung der Circadianrhythmen zunehmend praktische Anwendung gefunden. Die Zunahme der Nacht- und Schichtarbeit sowie die Notwendigkeit, circadiane Rhythmen bei langen Aufenthalten im Weltraum zu berücksichtigen, haben die Zahl der Arbeiten, die sich mit Circadianrhythmen beschäftigen, anschwellen lassen, insbesondere in Zeitschriften der Arbeits- und Raumfahrtmedizin. Heutzutage werden in der ganzen Welt nicht nur circadiane, sondern auch andere Rhythmen, z. B. Menstruations-, Lunar- und Jahresrhythmen, intensiv untersucht, und es bestehen etliche Zeitschriften, die ausschließlich den verschiedenen biologischen Rhythmen gewidmet sind (Literaturübersichten in Buchform s. Kleitman 1939, 1963; Menzel 1962; Conroy und Mills 1970; u. a.).
