Local Brain Protein Metabolism in Dementia and Schizophrenia: In Vivo Studies with 11C-L-Methionine and Positron Emission Tomography

  • Chapter
Positron Emission Tomography of the Brain

Abstract

Positron emission tomography (PET) now provides the opportunity for local studies of brain functions such as blood flow and oxygen and glucose, and aminoacid consumption. A reduction in mean value of one of these biochemical parameters is not always followed by the same decrease in the others, and these discrepancies are particularly interesting in diseased nervous tissue.
