The Biological Component of Expert Systems

  • Conference paper
Bioproducts and Bioprocesses

Abstract

Expert systems for biochemical engineering do not yet incorporate biochemical and biological information of sufficient sophistication for dealing with some key situations encountered in practical processes. Of particular concern is relating specific growth rate coefficient to concentrations of limiting nutrients. Some common equations proposed for modeling limitations by several nutrients are invalid, so another approach is proposed. We also demonstrate an expert system that analyzes interactions in microbial ecosystems.
